A man originally from the United States was arrested in Mexico along with thousands of doses of cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, firearms, and a stolen vehicle. He is Manuel Antonio “N,” who claimed to be part of a cell of a criminal group operating along the border.
A total of four people were traveling in a vehicle on the Luis Donaldo Colosio Ring Road, in the El Greco neighborhood, in the municipality of Nogales, when members of the Army and the Ministerial Criminal Investigation Agency (AMIC) spotted a suspicious vehicle.
The only person arrested after a chase
The vehicle’s occupants tried to evade authorities, leading to a chase that resulted in three people escaping on foot. The only person arrested was the man originally from Phoenix, Arizona.
Inside the black Chevrolet Malibu, officers found an AK-47 rifle, a Glock pistol, and more than 2,000 doses of drugs. Inside the vehicle, which was reported stolen in the US, loaded magazines were also found.
“The detainee stated that he belonged to a cell of a criminal group that generates violence in the border region,” according to the report from the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office (FGJES) on June 29.
The seized evidence was made available to federal authorities so that an investigation can be initiated for violations of the weapons law and crimes against public health.
Foreigners detained in Sonora

It should be noted that at least two arrests of individuals from the US were recorded in Sonora in May. On May 5, the Sonora Attorney General’s Office reported that Carlos and/or Luis Everardo “N” was arrested after a search of a home in the Solidaridad neighborhood of San Luis Río Colorado.
The 25-year-old man from Phoenix, Arizona, was detained along with 322 ballistic missiles of various calibers.
Meanwhile, four days later, the arrest of Jim “N” was reported. He is a 52-year-old man from Texas and has an arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking activities.
The man was located on Freemont Boulevard in the Benito Juárez neighborhood of Puerto Peñasco and later handed over to US authorities to face charges in the District Court of El Paso, Texas.
