The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Water Resources, Fisheries and Aquaculture (SAGARHPA) reports that, 11 days into the crab fishing season along the Sonora coast, Puerto Peñasco has recorded a catch of nearly 100 tons, representing a favorable start to the season.
The season officially began on July 10th, and during this period, activity has maintained a positive trend in this fishing area.
At the beach market, the purchase price ranges between 48 and 50 pesos per kilogram. Most of the production is destined for the export market to the United States, where there is significant demand.
The head of SAGARHPA, Juan González Alvarado, emphasized that the progress of this season reflects the importance of fishing and the work carried out by Sonoran fishermen and women.
“As we have already informed the public, we reiterate that we will continue to monitor the sector to promote better conditions and strengthen the state’s production chains,” he stated.
Currently, Puerto Peñasco has three processing plants dedicated to handling and packaging the product for sale, infrastructure that strengthens the value chain of this fishery and contributes to its presence in export markets.
