The number of women who have been victims of domestic violence has tripled this year in Sonora; The figures, prepared by the Ministry of Health of the federal government, indicate that, at the end of October, there were already more than 600 cases, while last year 216 had been registered.
This situation represents the most violent period for Sonoran women in the last 5 years, since, from 2019 to 2021, the Ministry of Health had attended to 529, 211 and 441 cases of women victims of physical, sexual or psychological violence produced by inside the family unit. This year, 634 of them have received care.
This occurs in the context of conventional epidemiological surveillance carried out by the General Directorate of Epidemiology, and shows that 9 out of 10 victims of domestic violence have been women.
The State Executive Commission for Attention to Victims (Ceeav) reports on the disparity of victims on the issue of violence, and that it is also observed in other areas of care for the injured, although with a smaller proportion.
This year’s Ceeav records show that 2 out of every 3 people registered to receive care (excluding children and adolescents) are female.
From January to September, the Victim Registry has 309 entries and, of this number, 197 were identified as women.
