Regarding recent demonstrations held by a group of “searching mothers” in Nogales, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Sonora (FGJES) reports that there is no evidence, data, or objective information to suggest that U.S. citizen Nancy Guthrie entered, stayed in, or traveled through Sonoran territory.

The agency clarifies that it has received no official communication from United States authorities indicating or suggesting that the individual in question was—or currently is—in Sonora, specifically in the city of Nogales.

Verifications conducted by the relevant divisions of the Attorney General’s Office have failed to confirm any information—even of a preliminary nature—that would support a line of investigation regarding her possible presence in the state. Consequently, the claims made by the representative of a search group currently lack verifiable supporting data; notably, the person attributed as the source of this information has not provided the source itself for corroboration.

Furthermore, on March 3 of this year, another group made similar claims, which were likewise uncorroborated by evidentiary data or by United States authorities.

The FGJES reiterates its willingness to collaborate with domestic and foreign authorities on the search for and investigation of missing persons, and reaffirms its commitment to providing information objectively, responsibly, and based on duly corroborated facts.
