Mexican search collective says it will not give up its efforts to locate the remains of Nancy Guthrie

NOGALES, SONORA — A volunteer search organization in Mexico has announced it will not give up its efforts to locate the remains of Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

The volunteer group, Buscando Corazones Nogales, told TMZ that members plan to resume their field operations tomorrow. The decision follows a multi-day effort in a remote area near the U.S.–Mexico border that ultimately came up empty. The group originally scrambled to the vast, rugged terrain last week after receiving an anonymous tip claiming Guthrie’s remains had been buried in a shallow grave in Mexico.

While the grueling desert search led to the discovery of 25 unrelated, unmarked graves, none of the remains recovered were linked to Guthrie. Despite the setback, group members remain undiscouraged and plan to shift their focus to two new, unexplored locations within the same general area.

Guthrie vanished from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31, 2026, in what law enforcement treats as an abduction. Tucson sits approximately 70 miles north of the current search zone. As the investigation continues, Guthrie’s family is still offering a $1 million reward for any information leading to answers.

TMZ reporting volunteer group received anonymous Guthrie tip explains how the volunteer search group first mobilized after receiving the anonymous tip regarding the remote Mexican desert location.
