The municipal government of the port city announced that all activities within the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT) must adhere to official regulations to ensure the responsible use of the space, protect the natural environment of the beaches, and safeguard the well-being of attendees.
In the issued statement, they indicated that anyone intending to hold social, religious, or any other type of social event on the beach must submit a written request to the Municipal Secretary’s Office.
The document must include the date of the planned event, the time the space will be used, and the purpose of the event. It must also include the applicant’s signature and a copy of their official identification.
When submitting the request, a signed letter of commitment to the care of the spaces to be used must also be submitted to ZOFEMAT, along with a statement specifying the use of pyrotechnics, if necessary.
The Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone is a twenty-meter-wide strip of firm, passable land adjacent to the beach. It is understood that the term “beach” refers to the portion of land that is covered and uncovered by the water due to the tide.
In cases where the coast lacks beaches and features rock formations or cliffs, the Secretariat will define the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone within a 20-meter strip adjacent to the shoreline, provided that the slope of said strip does not exceed 30 degrees.
Municipal authorities clarified that failure to comply with these requirements may result in administrative sanctions, as well as the denial of permission to hold future events.
