The head of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), Pedro Álvarez Icaza, visited the Los Ojos Basin in Agua Prieta, Sonora, to learn about the progress in conservation, restoration, and integrated ecological management.

The commission stated that “with an approach that seeks to restore absent ecological processes through the reintroduction of native species that historically played key roles in the landscape, the Los Ojos Basin is managing the reintroduction of the bison.”

They intend to translocate 25 bison—18 females and seven males—from Rancho El Uno, in the state of Chihuahua, to the Los Ojos Basin in the near future (without specifying when).

“Furthermore, the reintroduction of other species to the area is being considered in the future,” CONANP wrote, adding a series of emojis: a beaver, wolf, fish, badger, big cat, and deer.
