Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño inaugurated the first public electric charging station in Sonora and launched three electric buses.
The state governor stated that this new mobility model, in which 19.4 million pesos were invested, seeks to decarbonize the economy and leverage clean energy to position the state as a leader in sustainable development.
This station has five dual-charger stations, an electrical substation, a machine room, offices, restrooms, a security booth, and a roof to protect the vehicles while charging.
“Although today we are inaugurating an electric charging station, it is a historic step in the sense that we are strengthening our state’s position as a leading entity in the energy transition and in addressing climate change,” he stated.
During the day, the charging station can charge up to 160 electric cars, equivalent to 58,000 vehicles per year and representing a reduction of 138,000 tons of carbon dioxide compared to gasoline-powered cars.
This contributes to environmental protection by reducing polluting gases.
At night, these same charging stations can power up to 21 electric buses, equivalent to eliminating 2,700 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
During the inauguration, Governor Durazo Montaño put into operation three electric buses that will be incorporated into the Hospitals-Universities electric line, with an investment of 14.9 million pesos.
This route extends from downtown Hermosillo to educational institutions such as the University of Sonora, the Hermosillo Institute of Technology (ITH), and Conalep II, and connects to the General Hospital, the IMSS Zone 14 Hospital, and the General Specialty Hospital.
With these actions, the Sonora government reaffirmed its commitment to the human right to sustainable and modern mobility, recognized in the State Constitution since 2022.
