The inhabitants of Cajeme in Sonora experienced hours of panic, as intense shootings were reported for several hours in different parts of the city.
People lying on the ground on the pavement and under cars, houses and vehicles riddled with bullets, hundreds of spent shells and tire-puncturing devices on the asphalt, were recorded in videos that circulated on social networks after the armed confrontations between criminal groups.
Apparently, according to reports, the violent events recorded this Sunday began in the morning with the illegal deprivation of liberty of a person in the Prados del Tepeyac neighborhood.
The strongest shootings were reported in the sectors of Real de Sevilla, Misión del Real, Alameda, Villa Bonita, Matías Méndez, Urbi Villa, Montecarlo and Misión del Sol.
In Montecarlo, the authorities clashed with criminals.
It has been reported that one person was wounded by a bullet and was transferred to the IMSS Bienestar hospital in Cajeme.
After the intense shootings, a Navy helicopter flies over the municipality; the Red Code remains active and there is a large mobilization of authorities from the three levels of government.
Regarding the violent events, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE) reported that coordinated actions are being carried out between the security forces of the three levels of government.
This Sunday, a joint operation was carried out resulting in the arrest of a suspected criminal, as well as the seizure of firearms and vehicles, in the municipality of Cajeme.
Around 09.18 hours, an emergency code was reported in the Misión del Sol neighborhood, where elements of the National Guard and Municipal Police of Cajeme responded to the call.
Later, elements of the State Public Security Police were added to the operation; and in response to the reports, the National Guard detected a gray Ford Explorer vehicle fleeing through the north exit, on the International Highway, starting a chase with the support of other security corporations.
Tactical actions resulted in the arrest of a male, identified as Brandon “N”, as well as two vehicles, one of them armored, in addition to long weapons and pistols, which are being processed by the Forensic Services personnel to collect the evidence and turn it over to the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR), the Sonora Prosecutor’s Office reported.
