President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced this Monday that he will give the first lithium concessions in his administration to the state company Litio para México (LitioMx) on February 19 , as part of his promotion of the so-called Plan Sonora.

“We are going to go to La Ventana, Sonora, which is the lithium mine, where concessions are going to be delivered to a national company,” López Obrador announced in his morning conference this Monday at the National Palace.

The president pointed out that the most important lithium mine in Mexico is in Banámichi, Sonora, where they already work in collaboration with a private company that already exploits the area.

He also said that he will visit the city of Nogales, a city on the border with Arizona, USA, to supervise the administrative efforts to develop a bypass and divert the passage of the railroad.
