The General Directorate of Animal Protection and Welfare of the State of Sonora announced the arrival of “Sonora Atiende” (Sonora Atiende) in the city, with a free Service Fair for dogs and cats that seeks to curb abandonment, prevent diseases, and promote responsible pet care.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 20, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Enriqueta Ortega Gastelum Elementary School, located on Av. 57 between Río Asunción and Río Lerma, Colonia San Rafael. During the event, basic consultations, nail trimming, internal and external deworming, and 60 spay/neuter appointments will be offered.
Strict Requirements for Safe Sterilization
To access the sterilization service, the following requirements must be met:
Healthy dogs and cats, 3 months or older
Fasting for 6 hours (water is allowed)
Safe carrier, leash, or crate, no exceptions
Blanket or sheet for recovery
Non-lactating dogs
Tick-free
These measures aim to ensure the safety of the procedure and avoid complications during the service. Veterinary staff will be trained to care for animals under controlled conditions and with appropriate follow-up.
Free services for animal health
The “Sonora Atiende” service is part of a state strategy to reduce animal overpopulation, prevent zoonotic diseases, and promote the well-being of dogs and cats in urban and rural communities. Sterilization, in addition to preventing unwanted births, reduces the risk of abandonment and abuse, while deworming contributes to improving the overall health of animals and their families.
The General Directorate of Animal Protection and Welfare invites the public to take advantage of this free event, which represents a concrete opportunity to improve the quality of life of companion animals and strengthen the bond between humans and pets.
