Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño held a meeting yesterday with members of cooperatives, permit holders, independent fishermen, and individuals dedicated to the processing of seafood in Bahía de Lobos, Empalme, and Guaymas.
Accompanied by the National Commissioner of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Alejandro Flores Nava, the state governor emphasized the importance of establishing fisheries reorganization measures with the participation of all three levels of government and the productive sector, in order to define and evaluate development opportunities that benefit fishing families.
We will seek him out with a desire to help, because I want my administration to leave a lasting impact on the fishermen of Sonora. “Let them know that during my administration they had an ally,” said Durazo Montaño.
During the meeting, a report was presented on actions promoted by federal, state, and municipal authorities to streamline production efforts and improve the living conditions of coastal fishermen and their communities.
The cooperative members explained that the main species caught in the region are shrimp, crab, cannonball jellyfish, snail, clam, scallop, squid, shark, dogfish, sea bass, snapper, sole, sawfish, and croaker.
In this area, in the last year alone, more than 380,653 tons of fish have been produced, generating an economic impact of 3.168 billion pesos, consolidating Sonora as the country’s leading fish producer.
The Governor concluded the meeting by reaffirming his commitment to promoting this activity with justice, order, and development, always working hand in hand with the sector and in coordination with the three levels of government.
In the Also present at the meeting were the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Water Resources, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Célida López Cárdenas, and the delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) in Sonora, Juan Manuel González Alvarado.
