The capture in Culiacán, Sinaloa, of Omar Félix Loaiza, known as El Pelón de Sonoyta or El 8, leader of a criminal cell that operates on behalf of Los Chapitos in Sonora, confirmed an alliance that the armed wing made with another criminal group to fight the drug trafficking routes of Los Salazar, former partners of the Los Menores faction of the Pacific Cartel.
Infobae Mexico reported on the afternoon of November 14 that El Pelón was captured by elements of the Secretariat of the Mexican Navy (Semar), the Mexican Army, the National Guard and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) in compliance with an arrest warrant for his probable participation in organized crime crimes for drug trafficking, arms trafficking and human trafficking.
The confirmation of the capture of this criminal leader was made this Friday by the head of the SSPC, Omar García Harfuch, who attributed his arrest to various violent actions by Félix Loaiza in our country, in addition to fulfilling the arrest warrant for the aforementioned crimes, including the trafficking of fentanyl to Arizona, United States.
According to federal authorities, this 44-year-old subject has been coordinating the offensive of Los Chapitos against Los Mayos in Sinaloa since September 19, just days after the war was declared between both factions due to the betrayal of Joaquín Guzmán López, son of El Chapo Guzmán, to his godfather and co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, Ismael El Mayo Zambada.
Federal authorities identify Félix Loaiza as a generator of violence in the northeast of Sonora and, according to naval intelligence, this subject fled to Sinaloa after suffering an attempted murder in the municipality of General Plutarco Elías Calles. It is not clear if that was the reason why he fled to Sinaloa or because of the beginning of the conflict between Los Chapitos and Los Mayos.
In addition, Omar Félix Loaiza is considered an important generator of violence in the states of Sinaloa, Sonora and Baja California.
Infobae Mexico was able to learn that he used criminal actions with advanced technology, such as the use of drones loaded with explosives, and it was detected that he planned to carry out greater actions with explosives in subsequent days, so his capture was given top priority for the Armed Forces.
Federal authorities report that El Pelón’s armed wing made an alliance in July 2022 with Eric Jesús Cabrera Cabrera, alias El Duranguillo and/or Delta 1, leader of Los Deltas, another armed wing related to Los Chapitos.
This alliance allowed them to confront Los Cazadores and Los Salazar on drug trafficking routes in the Altar-Sásabe region, in Sonora. It should be noted that all of these criminal cells were partners of Los Menores.
