Authorities in Sonora arrested a US citizen who was wanted in the neighboring country for a kidnapping case. The subject was identified as Zacarías “N”, 37 years old, who was handed over to border agents after his arrest.

Zacarías was located on López Portillo Boulevard in the neighborhood with the same name, belonging to the city of Puerto Peñasco. At the time of his identification, police officers proceeded to arrest him.

State Attorney General’s Office personnel were aware that Zacarías was wanted in the United States, so he was considered a fugitive from justice. Specifically, he was wanted by the Linn County Court of Justice in Iowa for an investigation into deprivation of liberty and injuries against an American woman.

It was reported that the aggrieved woman responds to the name of Shea “N”, 37 years old, who had been the victim of kidnapping and injuries. Although the date of the incident was not specified, it was indicated that the alleged aggressor was Zacarías “N”.

In addition to these two crimes, the American citizen was wanted for failure to appear for the reading of these charges, driving vehicles under the influence of narcotics and illegal residence.

Once arrested, personnel from the National Institute of Migration (INM) proceeded to transfer Zacarías from Puerto Peñasco to the Lukeville Border Port checkpoint in Arizona, where he was handed over to American agents.

“He was handed over to the authorities of the neighboring country to answer for several crimes, including an investigation for illegal deprivation of liberty and/or whatever else may result, as well as injuries against an American citizen,” reported the Sonora Prosecutor’s Office.

Although Zacarías was handed over to the United States on Saturday, November 9, his arrest took place a day earlier in Puerto Peñasco.

American wanted in New York arrested
This case adds to that of Michal Howard “N”, a 42-year-old American citizen who was arrested in Sonora by elements of the Criminal Investigation Ministerial Agency (AMIC).

His arrest took place in mid-October in the Centro neighborhood of Puerto Peñasco. This individual had an arrest warrant issued by the New York Court of Justice, in Wyoming County. Howard was wanted for the crime of second-degree murder against Cheryl “N”, 53 years old.

The events for which he was arrested occurred on November 7, 2023, when US authorities found Cheryl, who was identified as Howard’s roommate, dead. In the preliminary autopsy it was reported that the cause of death was strangulation.

After the crime, Howard crossed the border and fled to Mexico. Once arrested in Sonora, he was transferred to the Lukeville Border Gate to be handed over to the agents of the neighboring country.
