An Ecuadorian family who was kidnapped while traveling from Mexico City to Sonora is released
The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry reported that six Ecuadorian citizens were kidnapped on June 27 “in circumstances not yet specified.”
The Foreign Ministry of Ecuador reported this Thursday, July 4th, on the kidnapping of an Ecuadorian family in Mexican territory that after seven days was released in the state of Chihuahua.
Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, the case of six Ecuadorian citizens who were deprived of their liberty on June 27 when they were moving from the country’s capital to Sonora was announced.
“The Ecuadorian family group would have been kidnapped in circumstances not yet specified, while they were traveling from Mexico City to Nogales, State of Sonora,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Ecuadorian agency coordinated search and location actions with Mexican and United States authorities, such as the FBI and the Border Patrol, as well as the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). .
He added that the search efforts were carried out in Sonora, Durango and Chihuahua.
Hours after announcing the case, Ecuadorian authorities confirmed the release of the family in the state of Chihuahua, which remained in the custody of the Prosecutor’s Office.
The Foreign Ministry indicated that it worked together with the Consulate of Ecuador in Phoenix, Arizona, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office to find the whereabouts of the family.
He added that they will offer the option of assisted return to Ecuador and, if the family decides to return to that country, they will apply the care protocol for people in vulnerable situations.
