The U.S. Office of Customs and Border Protection at the Lukeville border crossing site has announced extended hours over U.S. federal holidays. Currently, border hours at the Lukeville/Sonoyta crossing are from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. These hours will remain in effect, though extended over holiday weekends to 10 p.m. (ON FRIDAYS AND MONDAYS) (*until further notice regarding going back to regular hours). The goal is to provide tourists and residents in the region a broader margin of time to cross the border safely over holiday weekends.
The holiday modification to the Lukeville border crossing hours was done in response to a request of Puerto Peñasco Mayor Jorge Pivac Carrillo, made to CBP officials in December, to help prevent long lines of tourists upon their return to the U.S. following longer holiday weekends. This will also benefit residents from Sonoyta and Puerto Peñasco.
The extended holiday hours at the Lukeville/Sonoyta border crossing will be from 6 a.m – 10 p.m., for the following dates:
Presidents Day Weekend – Feb 18th / Feb 21st
Memorial Day Weekend – May 27th / 30th
Juneteenth – June 17th / 20th
Independence Day – July 1st / 4th
Labor Day – September 2nd / 5th
Columbus Day – Oct 7th / 10th
Veterans Day – Nov 11th / 14th
