This weekend, Puerto Peñasco hosted the highly anticipated Great Desert Race, a sporting event that has established itself as one of the most important in northern Mexico.

A significant number of runners from different parts of the country and around the world responded to the call, ready to challenge themselves on one of the most complex and beautiful routes on the planet.

Organized by Sabino, with the support of the state government, this competition’s main objective is to promote tourism and respect for the nature of this unique region, explained Ernesto Rivas, president of the company.

The event is distinguished by its impressive course, which begins in the Sierra mountains and culminates on the coast of the Sea of Cortez. This combination of landscapes, including marshes, deserts, and mountains, offers a challenge for both experienced and novice runners, who face conditions not found in other competitions.

This year, the Great Desert Race featured several events, from the shortest 10 kilometers to the challenging 75 kilometers, attracting both local and international runners.

In the days leading up to the race, Puerto Peñasco offered various activities for tourists and participants, allowing attendees to enjoy local cuisine, water activities, and immerse themselves in the region’s culture.

For his part, Roberto Gradillas, head of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, expressed his gratitude for the hundreds of runners who responded to the call, as they contribute to showcasing the region’s attractions to the world.
